School Life and Advisory
Finding your way
School life at the Academy is organized around a class dean system. Students work closely with their class dean to navigate classes and school life. International students also work closely with Tracy Weitz, Director of the Center for International Students. Our school life team works hard to know every student well and helps set each individual on a path to success.
Our dedicated ninth-grade dean helps students make the transition from eighth grade to high school. Starting in tenth grade, students remain with the same class dean for their final three years. This model allows students to get to know their dean well so they have someone they can connect with regarding class changes, conflict resolution, and general counsel.
In addition to a class dean, students are also assigned a faculty advisor. Advisory groups are comprised of ten students, all from the same grade. This group remains together for the student's time at the Academy. In our advisory program, students work with their advisor and fellow group members to set goals, perform community service, discuss progress, and any other items of interest in the group. Advisory groups meet weekly, as well as sit together at the all-school meeting.
