John Girouard

Girouard’s work has been shown throughout New England, and more notably, represented at the Chicago Cultural Center’s ArtFutura Exhibition in Chicago, IL. from 2012 through 2014.

As a self-taught artist whose journey into the art world began outside conventional paths, Girouard worked as a baker in Maine, where he was given the opportunity to pursue art more rigorously and immerse himself in the study of mixed media on canvas. He developed an appreciation for the power of color and refined a sensitive handling of his patented mixed media that was inspired by his love of nature. The elements of Girouard’s compositions include layered glazes, rich colors, gestural strokes, and an atmospheric sense of light and depth.

“The current body of my work consists of vividly depicted abstract paintings that use strong, bold colors in a mixed medium that delight in swirling movement,” said Girouard. “The thickness and transparency of the media, allow the works to retain qualities of depth and liquidity even after drying. Each canvas possesses layers of pure, rich color and thick undulating texture that capture light by visually traveling through the painting,” continued Girouard. “They capture the connection between my love for the wilderness and spirituality.”

The Goldberg Gallery is open to the public and the hours are Sundays - 12:00-4:00 pm & 7:30-9:30 pm; Monday-Thursday-7:00-5:00 pm & 7:30-9:30 pm; Fridays 7-5 pm; closed Saturdays. For more information about Girouard and his artwork, he can be reached at jawna94@yahoo.com.
