Mary Ellen Davey '78
Mary Ellen Davey grew up in Lovell and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1978. Being the youngest of five, she followed in the footsteps of her siblings Lynn, Michael, John, and Jennifer. Their father, Peter Davey, also graduated from the Academy and the family still owns their home at Conifer on Kezar Lake.
Mary Ellen earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Michigan State University, where her focus of study was on microbial ecology and genetics.She then went on to Dartmouth (Geisel) Medical School for her postdoctoral studies. At Dartmouth, she transitioned to the study of human infectious diseases, in particular, biomedical implant-based bacterial infections. Mary Ellen is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where she runs an NIH- funded research lab, teaches, and mentors graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
