    Fryeburg Academy Presents: The King And I

    Fryeburg Academy presents Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1952 Tony Award-winner for "Best Musical," The King And I. Anna is a widowed British schoolteacher brought to Siam to tutor the King’s many children. When she arrives, though she enjoys an instant connection to the students, she struggles with cultural differences and with the headstrong King. Through her kindness and persistence, Anna eventually connects with the King, helping to fuel mutual feelings of social understanding and cultural acceptance and openness. Music by Richard Rodgers. Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, II. Based on Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon. Original Choreography by Jerome Robbins.

    Met Opera Live in HD: Eugene Onegin

    Tchaikovsky’s setting of Pushkin’s timeless verse novel is presented on the Met stage in Deborah Warner’s moving production, starring Anna Netrebko and Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Tatiana and Onegin. Alexey Dolgov sings the role of Lenski, and Robin Ticciati conducts. White Mountain Cider Company will be serving lunch in the lobby from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Due to our limited lunch seating, all tables are reserved for White Mountain Cider Co. customers. Joe De Vito will be hosting his Opera Lecture Series on Thursday, April 20th at 3:00 pm.

    Portland Symphony Orchestra Brass KinderKonzert

    Learn about musical concepts like melody, harmony, rhythm, and call and response, as well as a little about the brass family of instruments with players from the Portland Symphony Orchestra! This performance is educationally aimed at Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Proceeds help MSAD 72 continue to fund musical experiences for students.

    District II Honors Jazz Festival

    The District II Honors Jazz Festival brings together students selected by audition from throughout southern Maine. The concert, which features the Honors High School Jazz Band, the Honors Middle School Jazz Band, and the Honors High School Jazz Choir, is the culmination of a two-day educational jazz festival.

    Painting Sound, Hearing Color

    Painting Sound, Hearing Color is a concert of new music inspired by paintings and an art show of paintings inspired by music. Instrumentalists Ellen Schwindt and Mike Sakash collaborate with painters Stephen Kull and Cynthia Pfender to explore the boundaries of sight and sound.

    Food For Thought Film Festival: Seed

    Spice and Grain presents the final 2017 Food for Thought Film Festival screening, Seed: The Untold Story. The festival will include a farmers' market from 2-4 pm, live music from Junco from 3-4 pm, the film at 4:00, and guest speaker Will Bonsall (author and director of the Scatterseed Project) following the film. "Food for Thought” is designed to encourage a discussion among neighbors and friends about the food we eat, and the importance of where it comes from. Local farmers, producers, and restaurateurs will be on hand to provide information, samples, and food.
