Sylvia Shaw Lydick '43

Sylvia S. Lydick, 92, of Raymond Cape, and formerly of Prides Corner in Westbrook, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at Birchwoods at Canco in Portland.

Born, the daughter of Daniel C. and Cora M. Shaw, Sylvia was raised in Raymond in the family farmhouse. Growing up on the farm and being the youngest of four taught her many life lessons. She enjoyed the companionship of her beloved horse, learned how to drive in the open fields and to perfect her balancing skills on the beams of the barn and roof top.
Sylvia graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1943, where she blossomed and was involved in many activities and remained active with the Alumni Association. She went on to Becker College in Worcester, Mass. and earned a finishing secretarial diploma. From 1994 through 1952 she was a legal secretary in Portland and from 1964 to 1987 she served as senior secretary at S.D. Warren Co. in Westbrook.
She married Bud Lydick in 1946 in the Raymond Village Church and lived in Prides Corner for 25 years. In 1975 Sylvia and Bud moved to their year-round residence on Sebago Lake at Raymond Cape. Sylvia and her husband spent many happy years with their three children in Prides Corner and Raymond Cape. After retirement, Sylvia and Bud spent 18 memorable winters in Ft. Myers, Fla., where she learned to play tennis at the age of 61 and made many wonderful friends.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband, Elwin (Bud) Lydick and her siblings George Ronald Shaw, Hilda Durgin, and Ethelyn Fitzmorris.
