William M. Pitman '55

William Merle Pitman, 80, a lifelong resident of South Chatham, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at the Pinerock Manor in Warner with family at his bedside.
He was born on, Sept. 23, 1937, in North Conway, a son of Merle and Edna (Hill) Pitman. He attended the one-room schoolhouse in South Chatham and later graduated from Fryeburg Academy.
 
On June 26, 1960, he married Sunya “Sunny” Munroe at the Chatham Church. They made their home locally as he ran a small logging and sawmill operation.

Bill was a friendly sort who enjoyed traveling, geography, trains, collecting old tractors, and walking with friends.
He is survived by a son, Matt Pitman and his wife, Rachel of South Chatham; a daughter-in-law, Tricia Pitnam of North Chatham; a grandson, Riley Pitman of North Chatham; special step-grandchildren, Michele Jensen and her children, Jenny and Eric, Andrew and Ericka Edgecomb and their daughter, Chloe, and Tina Lewis; sisters-in-law, Mona Ames of Plainfield, CT and Wanda Irish of Conway; cousins including “brothers,” Richard Hill of Intervale, NH and Ronald Hill of New London, NH; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Sunny on Apr. 24, 2011 and son, Mark on June 5, 2017.

A graveside service will be held at 11AM, May 12, 2018 at the Green Hill Cemetery in South Chatham. Online condolences and tributes may be shared at www.woodfuneralhome.org.
