Beverly Rogers Edwards '50

Beverly Jean Edwards, 88, of Alfred and formerly of South Hiram, left us surrounded by those who loved her after a long battle with ill health on Monday morning, April 19, 2021 hugging her favorite teddy bear "Freddy the Teddy" at her home.
She was the daughter of Archie Frank Rogers and Gertrude (Sawyer) Rogers of Brownfield, Maine. She lived with her parents until she met the love of her life, Harry Wilbur Edwards on a date to Beech Ridge Speedway.

Beverly attended Bernards School of Cosmetology in Lewiston and was a stellar student while living part time in Lewiston and part time with her Aunt Dot and Uncle Junior in Fryeburg.

Beverly Rogers and Harry Edwards were married by a minister on December 30, 1952. Four days later Harry was inducted into the U.S. Army and left for Korea for two years. While her husband was in the service, she worked at the Cornish Dress Shop and continued that after his return. She became a trainer and supervisor and traveled for the company setting up several other shops in southern Maine including one in Sanford. She continued her career while her children, Pamela and Stephen, were young

She finally got to do her dream and became a hairdresser working for several local establishments. Then her real wish came true, she opened her own salon called Bev's Beauty Salon at her home on Rt. 160 in South Hiram for 25 years.

Beverly was an avid seamstress and could knit a sweater while watching Jeopardy. She was an incredible seamstress and could cut, sew and make anything and it would be perfect. Mom loved to travel and had many wonderful vacations with her husband and children.

Mom as well as Dad were very involved with the Riverside United Methodist Church in Kezar Falls. They loved being on committees, organizing events and helping in any was possible. She even became a Lay Minister for the church which she loved so much. Mom was also very involved and supportive with her husband in the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mom leaves one brother, Donald Rogers and his wife Mabel of Florida. Her son, Stephen A. Edwards and his wife Charline of Sanford. Her daughter, Pamela Thorne and her husband Stuart of Waterboro. Grandsons, Andrew S. Edwards and his wife Valerie of Amherst, NH. and Chad M. Edwards and his wife Tiffany of Sanford. Granddaughters, Heather LaCombe and her husband Jason of Hopkinton, NH. and Sarah Boulard and her husband Timothy of West Newfield. Also six great grandsons and four great granddaughters.

Due to the Covid virus, a graveside service will be announced late summer or early fall due to the unexpected loss of both of our parents. Arrangements are respectfully handled by Poitras, Neal and York Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.mainefuneral.com

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: The Riverside United Methodist Church, PO Box 26, Parsonsfield, ME. 04047. Thank you and God bless.
