Philip Harmon '57

Philip Lewis Harmon, 79, of Casselberry, FL passed away peacefully Friday, March 15, 2019 at Hospice of the Comforter after a sudden illness on top of his COPD.
Phil was born in 1939 to Ray and Nellie Harmon in Lovell, Maine. He attended the Annie Heald School and Fryeburg Academy, graduating in the Class of 1957. Following his graduation from high school he joined the Marines and was stationed in Jacksonville, South Carolina. He traveled to Lebanon and the Mediterranean during his enlistment.  After serving his country he returned to Lovell playing baseball and golf and starting a carpentry business. Countless rounds of golf were played at Lake Kezar Country Club where he held the title of Club Champion for many years. He met and married Thelma McAllister and enjoyed over 25 years of marriage before he lost her to cancer in 2003. Together they spent lots of time with friends playing cards, snowmobiling and going to dances at Redman's Hall. As Phil got closer to retirement he took on a partner, David Emery, in his carpentry business who became not only a coworker but a friend. Throughout his many years of building and remodeling, he built beautiful homes for people in Lovell, Stoneham, Stow and the surrounding area. After selling his house he wintered in Florida where he met Barbara Lukens. Together they shared their love of golf and travel, going on several cruises or driving to different places on the east coast. Phil leaves behind Barbara, her children Julie, Jim and Jeff and their families, sisters Juanita Lusky and husband Paul and their children and grandchildren, Donna Whitaker and her children and grandchildren, step daughter Bette Shevlin, grandchildren Amy Kahkonen and husband Duane, Susan Klementovich and husband Joe, Great grandchildren Kenzie, Kori, Alex and Ben. Phil's family cannot thank the Nurses and CNA's at AdventHealth Hospital in Orlando and Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs for all of the hours of care and compassion.
