Academics

Our academic program is designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in a complex world.  From outstanding advanced courses in all subjects, to outstanding arts programs, to experiential offerings, our curriculum is diverse, dynamic and able to meet the needs of a wide range of students.

The Program

Fryeburg Academy's Summer Term immerses students from across the globe in the region’s outdoor adventures alongside a concentration in academics, SAT and TOEFL prep, college visits, and experiences in American culture.

Students can choose from one-or-two-week sessions to participate in outdoor activities that range from hiking Sabbattus Mountain to venturing on moose watches and enjoying Maine’s beautiful beaches.

  • Sustainability Studies

    Learn how to create positive change in the world around you. Work with a team in our campus organic garden. Visit nearby farms, restaurants, businesses, and community organizations where people are making ideas for a sustainable future real.
  • College Admissions Prep

    Get a head start on your path to college through SAT /TOEFL prep, ESOL classes, and college essay writing.

  • Robotics and Programming

    Students will learn the basics of programming and apply their skills in robotics.

  • Outdoor Adventure and Leadership

    Discover the beautiful, rugged White Mountains and challenge yourself by hiking, canoeing, swimming, and exploring with our experienced guides. Each day is a new adventure as you gain confidence and skills in the outdoors.
  • Drive-In Movies

    An old pastime still enjoyed today! Watch the latest movie release on a large outdoor movie screen.

  • Adventures in Portland, Maine

    Situated on the beautiful coast of Maine, Portland and the surrounding area provide unlimited opportunities to explore. Enjoy a lighthouse tour up the coast, lobster roll dinner in Cape Elizabeth, and sunset at Kettle Cove.

  • Evening Activities

    Relax and socialize with new friends as you experience an American summer…ice cream, making s’mores, drive-in movies, swimming, stargazing, and more. Make memories that last a lifetime. You’ll share a room with another student in one of our comfortable dormitories, and eat nutritious and tasty meals in our dining hall. 

    Know that whatever you need, our faculty and dorm parents are always there to help you out.

  • Typical Weekday

    Start each day at 8:00am having breakfast with your new friends. At 9:00am, the morning sessions begin. After honing your skills in class, reenergize with a great lunch at 12:00pm. You will need that energy for a full active afternoon of outdoor adventuring starting at 1:00pm. After 5:00pm dinner, hang out with your friends and enjoy evening fun until lights out at 10:30pm.

  • Weekend Adventures | College Visits

    Each weekend will be spent visiting colleges such as:

    Boston University
    Boston College
    Massachusetts Institute of Technology
    Harvard University
    Tufts University
    Bates College
    Bowdoin College
    Colby College
    Northeastern University

  • Tuition

    Cost for one week -  $2,000
    Cost for two weeks - $3,500
