FA Students Win 2021 Biomimicry Youth Design Challenge
FA's Biology Club, led by Jennifer Richardson, was selected as the winner for the 2020-21 Youth Design Challenge, winning the Problem Definition Award for their MorphoBrick concept.
Winners of this award category are judged on systems thinking, thoroughness, and creativity in researching, identifying, and defining a problem to solve. The Youth Design Challenge empowers students to address global problems in sustainability and design by applying an understanding of nature and hands-on science.
Fryeburg Academy was selected from a total of 43 high school entries that the challenge received this year. And as an award winner, Fryeburg Academy will receive an Award Certificate and have their work publicly recognized online and in the media. In addition, a $500 cash gift will be made to an environmental charity in honor of Fryeburg Academy.
On Thursday, November 18th, Fryeburg Academy celebrated the fall sports season with its annual fall sports awards assembly held in the Wadsworth Arena. The following student-athletes were recognized for their outstanding performance during the fall 2021-22 season:
Beginning in the month of October, the Goldberg Gallery will host the work of Isaac Rader. Rader, a 2013 graduate of Fryeburg Academy, received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, and has studied at the Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction. He is a member of the Mount Washington Valley Art Association and has shown at many local venues throughout the Mount Washington Valley.
This past March, the Space Raiders purchased a 9.25” refractor telescope with a computer-controlled motorized “go-to” mount and camera adapter. Thanks to the generous donations from the Perloff Family Foundation, The Lucas Spencer Passion Fund, and Sally and Jim Gibson of Fryeburg, the purchase was possible. The telescope purchase helps to further our mission for viewing and astrophotography of the planets, stars, galaxies, nebula, and comets. We will be having open viewing events on campus and at the OLRC barn as weather and schedules permit.
The Fryeburg Academy Board of Trustees has appointed two new board members: Renee C. Thomas ‘84, and Nicola Soares ‘86. Both women hail from Bermuda and spent their Academy years as students in its boarding program.
Fryeburg Academy is an independent boarding and day school, serving grades 9-12 and postgraduate. We invite you to explore our site and learn how students from around the globe find their place in the world through our exceptional academic, art, and athletic programs.
