Roger F. Johnson '74

Roger (R. J.) Johnson, The Legend, aka the self-appointed mayor of South Chatham, left all of us who knew and loved him in an ATV accident on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at age 62, living as wild and crazy as he always did.
Roger grew up in South Chatham and worked in the woods with his dad and brothers most of his life. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1972 and married and started a family. He was a free spirit, always full of life. He was the kindest soul who would do anything for anyone, friend or stranger. He always had a way of putting a smile on everyone’s face, with a joke or just one of his stories.

He was always on the road, be it just riding around looking for wildlife or visiting his countless number of friends; the last few years very often with his shotgun rider/driver grandson, David, along for the ride. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin (Hermie) and Marilyn Johnson; his brother, Hermie, and sister-in-law, Cindy. He is survived by his daughter, Patsy Jordan, and her children, David, Emma, and Clara Jordan; his son, Andy, and his wife, Andi, and their children, Cayle, Kade, Kayrin, and Camden; his brother, John; his sisters, Debbie and Brenda; aunt Ellen Smith; along with nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best friends, Pam and Honkie. There will be no funeral but rather a celebration of his life. For the life of the party who would rather we all raised a beer to toast him than stand around and cry. Online condolences may be shared with his family at

A celebration of life and potluck will be held on Saturday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Natural Resources Building at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds. Arrangements are under the care of Wood Funeral Home, 9 Warren St., Fryeburg, Maine.
