I have many great memories from FA, but some of my favorites are practices with the cross-country ski team, especially playing ski football and hanging out in the ski room!

I participated in the then-annual lip sync competition for three years. In the first year, I did The Blues Brothers with Derek Eagan. We teamed up the following year for Weird Al and Blink 182. In my senior year, I did more Weird Al and Green Day. I was shy and quiet, so these were the only times I truly came out of my shell and showcased my weirdness and creativity. I also have fond memories of going on the French Club trip to France. I went on my own to see a movie in the cinema and run up the Eiffel Tower.

FA gave me so many unforgettable moments - meeting my husband Dan (who would have thought we’d end up building a life together in Maine!), winning states in cross country, and thanks to my teachers’ persistence, earning a scholarship to attend Haystack School of Crafts. But beyond the achievements, it was the friendships that have lasted a lifetime and the freedom to push boundaries safely - creatively, athletically, personally - that made FA special. It was a place where I could explore who I was becoming, surrounded by people who believed in that journey

FA was such a formative part of my journey, and what I remember most are the little everyday moments that made it feel like home. Late-night conversations in the dorms, pizza & move nights in the student union, playing team sports, and those weekend trips that always somehow turned into mini adventures — those are the memories that stick. I’ll never forget seeing snow for the first time and heading to the ski slopes — a mix of pure excitement, fear, and plenty of wipeouts!

I joined the Air Force after graduating in 1988 and became an aircraft mechanic specializing in the A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog), a close-air-support aircraft. Throughout my career, I was stationed at several duty stations, including RAF Bentwaters in the United Kingdom, Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona, and Osan Air Base in the Republic of South Korea, where I served two tours.

I have so many great memories at FA. But my favorite has to be my sophomore year when our basketball team made it to the quarterfinals. We played in the Augusta Civic Center- and got to stay as a team in a hotel! We had so many fans travel up to watch us; it was a really great atmosphere to play in.

There are too many to list, but I generally still reminisce about the times spent on the football, wrestling, and track teams. Daily practices and long bus rides with my teammates helped me form some friendships that are still as strong today as they were then.

"This is hard, because my dad has taught at the Academy for 39 years, I kind of 'grew up' in the FA community, and have so many memories! I remember being a little kid and running around the old track while my dad would time me, attending football games when he would be in the booth announcing, or exploring the old Gibson gym while he clocked games."

My favorite memories at the Academy are my time on the soccer and ice hockey teams. I played soccer my whole life with many girls on the team, like with Liz Atwood, and her dad was our coach. When I look back on high school, that’s what I think of my time on the soccer field. Soccer was such a huge part of my life! I also loved being part of the ice hockey team, where we had so much fun. We’d travel to the Ham Arena or Bridget Academy rinks for practice, and the team had such good camaraderie.

It's hard to pick! I’m torn between the epic adventure of traveling to Europe for the first time with the French Club and the simplicity of enjoying Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffees on the grass in front of the library during study periods as the weather turned warm in spring.
