International Students

Student Visa Information

Accepted international students who plan on attending the Academy must return a signed enrollment contract and a deposit by the date specified on their enrollment agreement. International students must also complete the international student information form (I-20) sent by the Admission Office, once the contract and deposit are returned. Upon receipt of these items, the Admission Office will do one of the following:
  • For students who are not already studying in the U.S.- We issue the student a Fryeburg Academy I-20. The student is then responsible for following the proper steps to acquire an F-1 student visa. Those students who follow the proper steps but have their visa application denied are eligible to have their deposit returned in full.
  • For students who are already studying in the U.S. on an F-1 visa- Upon completion of the student's current program, Fryeburg Academy will contact the sending institution in order to have the I-20 transferred.

ESOL Testing: Finding the Best Placement Level

Upon arrival at the Academy, all international students are given an English test and a math test to help determine course placement. Working with members of the ESOL department, students will receive a customized schedule that will help them achieve their personal academic goals. The Academy offers four levels of ESOL classes from beginner to transitional. We also offer subject-based ESOL courses in biology and history. With over 100 course offerings, students will find they have options from advanced courses to electives.

More specific information on course offerings and our ESOL program can be found in the “Academics” section of our website.

Center for International Students + College Placement

Most international students come to Fryeburg Academy to prepare for admission to an American college or university. The Center for International Students has an experienced college counselor who works closely with individual students to find the best school for their needs. The whole process, which includes choosing a list of colleges, filling out the applications, writing the essay, completing special forms, and finally, deciding which college to attend, is carefully supported by a knowledgeable and experienced counselor.

More specific information on the colleges and universities where recent graduates have been accepted can be found in the “College Placement” section of our website.
