Updated Information for Seniors

Thinking about applying to college? It is not too late. Many colleges have extended their application deadlines. Considering community colleges? Save money and complete a certificate program or earn your associate’s degree. There are many great options here in the state of Maine, NH, and across the country. Most community colleges offer a 2+2 program if your goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree. Please see your school counselor for assistance.  We are here to help you plan and achieve your goals.

Apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA. Some colleges also require the CSS profile. You must meet application deadlines. Please see your school counselor for assistance.

Already applied to college? Check your email often for updates, and continue checking your college portals to view your application status and view admission decisions as well as financial aid award letters.  Please update your school counselor and your Scoir account with admission decisions.

Seniors should continue to apply for scholarships. Be sure to meet application deadlines. Scholarships that are due to Ms. Heininger need to be submitted by 2:35 pm on the day of the deadline--the end of our scheduled school day.  Most online applications also have a timeline, usually 5 pm, but we recommend you submit them by 2:35 pm to avoid being late.  Our local scholarship list can be found here.
SAT Testing Scheduled for Wednesday, March 24th at FA

Fryeburg Academy will be administering the SAT to all interested juniors on Wednesday, March 24th.  All juniors are encouraged to test on this date. Options for Saturday testing in the spring will be very limited due to COVID-19. To register, students must sign up
here.  Students must also pay the registration fee. The registration deadline is February 10th. Because this is school-based testing, students can not register online through their college board accounts for the March 24th test date. See March 24th SAT information letter for more details.

Many colleges will be test-optional next fall.  For more information, please click here. Additionally, the College Board is discontinuing the SAT subject tests and the optional SAT essay. Both will be phased out by June. Please see your post-secondary school counselor with questions.

Updated Information for Juniors

SAVE THE DATE:
Fryeburg Academy will be hosting a virtual Junior/Family College Night on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at 6:00 pm.  We will begin the evening with a financial aid presentation by FAME (Finance Authority of Maine), followed by a panel of college admission counselors who will discuss the college admissions process. Representatives from Colby College, The University of New England, The University of Maine, The University of Southern Maine, and White Mountains Community College will be present.  A link to the webinar will be posted soon.

Juniors should be accessing their SCOIR account to complete their career profile through YouScience, to research colleges, and to start developing their list of colleges.

SCOIR - Career & College Planning Tool

SCOIR is a web-based interactive career exploration and college-planning tool for students, parents, and counselors.
Students can explore career paths based on their unique interests and talents, and compare different colleges/universities based on their personal and academic preferences and tuition and fees.
SCOIR breaks down the college admissions process into manageable steps and helps students find the right fit. With students, parents/guardians, and counselors working together, SCOIR allows students to decide what colleges they will apply to and enable them to centralize their application documents in one place.
