The Center for International Students (CIS) is more than an ESOL program. It is a place where international students receive support in every aspect of the Fryeburg Academy experience. Through working with expert teachers and counselors, our international students achieve greater independence in their academic coursework and lives in America.
All international students receive individualized attention regarding their schedules, classroom concerns, grades, and cultural issues. In addition, international students receive specialized college and social/emotional counseling from a designated international school counselor. With over 70 years of experience educating international students, Fryeburg Academy is uniquely qualified to offer an exceptional educational and cultural experience. The director of the CIS serves as a facilitator of international student affairs and a contact point for parents and consultants.
The CIS includes the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) department, which offers a wide variety of courses such as ESOL English, U.S. History, World History, Global Studies, Biology, Algebra, College Writing, and TOEFL preparation. In addition, the CIS provides students assistance in writing papers for all mainstream classes at FA. The CIS director, teachers, and school counselors work collaboratively to ensure the best experience for each student, addressing each student’s individual needs instead of fitting the students into a pre-packaged plan.
