Fryeburg Academy’s Aviation Program launches students into the world of flight through immersive, hands-on learning and real-world aviation experiences.

Using on-campus flight simulators and instructional flights in partnership with Eastern Slope Aviation Academy, students develop practical skills and gain a clear understanding of aviation standards, safety, and procedures aligned with FAA expectations. Whether pursuing a Private Pilot License or exploring aviation as a hobby, students build confidence, technical knowledge, and a strong foundation for future pathways in aviation and beyond.

Foundations to Flight Pathway

The Aviation Program is designed as a three-year progression, allowing students to deepen their knowledge and skills over time.

Year One: Foundation of Aviation

  • Introduction to the aviation industry
  • History of aviation
  • Fundamentals of flight and aircraft 

Year Two: Applied Aviation Science

  • Physics of flight and aircraft design
  • Aviation operations
  • Navigation, communication systems, and meteorology

Year Three: Ground School

  • Comprehensive preparation for the FAA Private Pilot written exam
  • Review of regulations, safety, and flight planning
