FA's Afterschool Enrichment Program Engages Students Beyond the Classroom

Fryeburg Academy’s Afterschool Enrichment Program offers students opportunities to explore interests beyond the traditional academic day. Offered seasonally, the program encourages creativity, skill development, and engagement while helping students balance academics with hands-on learning and community connection.

The program meets on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:00–5:00 p.m. Ninth- and tenth-grade boarding students who are not participating in a seasonal athletic program are required to enroll, while the program is open to all other students based on space availability. Offerings span a wide range of interests, including ceramics, cooking, school farm, book club, science research, advanced weight training, dance, and a variety of athletic and outdoor options.

“These programs give students the freedom to explore interests they might not otherwise have time for during the school day,” said David Kenney, Dean of Campus Life. “They play an important role in supporting student well-being and engagement.”

Programs run across fall, winter, and spring sessions, aligning with the school calendar and offering flexibility throughout the year.

“The enrichment program helps create balance,” Kenney added. “It’s about giving students opportunities to grow, try new things, and connect with others in meaningful ways.”
