FA Boys' Tennis Makes History Behind Standout Season from Sophomore Luis Chavez

The Fryeburg Academy Boys' Tennis team ended with a historic season this spring, finishing undefeated at 8-0 and capturing the MAISAD (Maine Association of Independent School Athletic Directors) league team championship for the first time in program history. Sophomore standout Luis Chavez led the Raiders at #1 singles, earning the MAISAD Singles Championship and advancing to the Round of 16 at the Maine State Singles Tournament. Along the way, Luis delivered an unforgettable comeback victory at Bates College to become one of the top 16 high school tennis players in Maine, finishing the season with an impressive 14-2 record.

“Luis had an excellent season of tennis, as did the entire team,” said Head Coach John Waldie. “This was truly a special group of student-athletes that made history for Fryeburg Academy tennis.”

Coach Waldie added, “Luis just kept competing no matter the situation. His comeback win at states showed the kind of determination and composure he brought to the court all season long.”
