Athletic Update Corner: September 2024
- Athletics
Happy end of September. It’s hard to believe that, as we conclude this month, all of our fall athletic teams will have hit the midpoint or beyond of their regular season competition schedules. What’s not hard to believe—given the work they have put into training and preparation—is that they are enjoying an impressive level of success.
The cross country team has a more extensive roster than it has had in years, and as a result, it is placing more runners and scoring more team points than in recent years. Individually, in yesterday’s meet, James Lougee, Joseph Dellavlla, Mia As Traumas, Ella Casinelli, and Olivia Piazza all ran personal bests. They’re back in action next week.
Field hockey has a 4-2 record thus far, with notable wins over Cape Elizabeth, Panflute, Poland, and Lake Region. The girls are back in action and at home at 4:00 on Friday versus Greely!
Football has started 3-0 for the first time in numerous years, claiming victories over Biddeford, York, and Cape. The Raiders have controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, establishing a punishing ground game and a suffocating defense. Next, the team travels to Falmouth on Friday night for a 6:30 game.
Our golf team was hot out of the gate and has stayed hot, registering a 9-1 team record to date and continually improving upon its performance heading into the state qualifier next week. The group shot a combined 142 last week, which was a new school record for low team scores. Leading team performers are Kyle Infringer, Cody Davis, Alex Allain, and Quinn Dickey. Next up are the Western Maine Conference championships on Tuesday.
Boys' soccer has an impressive 5-2 record to date. Team chemistry is strong, and the boys are competing at a high level. Next up, the squad is at Yarmouth this afternoon for a 6:00 game.
Girls' soccer has gone 3-2 through the past five games and built some momentum. During that stretch, the girls have scored an impressive 13 goals by eight different scorers. Up next is Gray-New Gloucester at home this afternoon—jv at 4:00 and varsity at 6:00.
The mountain biking team is competing all over northern New England. Last week, they raced in an event at Proctor that included 500 racers and Raider Miles Davidson, who placed an impressive 8th in his class. The team is off to Woolwich for the chop point race on Saturday.
Finally, I want to thank our students for turning out in great numbers to support our teams, demonstrating great sportsmanship, cooperating with my expectations in the grandstands, and helping with cleanup along the way. Thank you. I know that it's appreciated.
Good luck to all of our athletes and coaches in the upcoming competition. We’re proud of you. Go, Raiders!
