Sherry Shaw Baker '74

With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and friend, Sherry Annette Baker, who left us peacefully on June 15, 2025, just shy of her 70th birthday.

Born on June 30, 1955, to Frank and Gloria Shaw, Sherry grew up in North Fryeburg, Maine, where she was raised on the family dairy farm. It was there that she learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and putting others before herself — principles that shaped her life and the legacy she leaves behind.

Sherry was the devoted mother of two sons, Roger Lowd and Paul Lowd, and a loving mother-in-law to Roger's wife Emily and Paul's wife Stephany. She found her greatest joy in her role as "Grammy" to her five grandsons: Aidan, Camden, Owen, Liam and Collin. Her heart was never fuller than when she was cheering them on from the sidelines of a game, applauding at a school performance or simply spending quality time with them. She never missed a moment — her love and presence were constants in their lives.

For the past 30 years, she shared a deep and devoted partnership with her husband, Chip Baker. Together, they built a life of love, laughter and unwavering support. Sherry also welcomed and loved her stepchildren, Melanie and Jarrett Baker and their children — Kimberly, Sara and Lindsey — who brought her great pride and joy.

She is survived by her brother Frank and sister Shirley (Mike) and was predeceased by her beloved brother John, whose memory she held close throughout her life.

She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and numerous dear friends who will remember her for her warmth, generosity and endless capacity to care. Whether hosting a gathering, lending a listening ear or offering a helping hand, Sherry was the kind of person whom everyone could count on to be gracious, humble and giving without hesitation.

Sherry worked many years at her local pharmacy, where she developed a strong bond with many in her community. Those going through the most difficult times of their lives found someone who would listen, lend a shoulder to cry on and even drive them to appointments. Whether it was the gift of vibrant homegrown flowers from her garden or her homemade ice cream, simple gestures were made to those during hard and difficult times.

She had an extraordinary way of making people feel seen, heard and loved. Her selflessness and compassion defined her, and she lived each day putting the needs of others before her own. Her friendships were deep and lasting, her love for family fierce and unconditional.

The family encourages acts of kindness in her memory — support a child's passion, lend a hand to a neighbor or gather with loved ones, just as she would have done. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn, Maine (15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240).

Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the time we had with her. Her love will continue to guide us, and her spirit will live on in the lives of all she touched.

Rest peacefully, Sherry. You were our foundation, our light and our greatest blessing.
