Leona Emery Mains '46

Leona R. (Emery) Mains of Fryeburg Maine died October 17, 2025, after a period of declining health. She was born June 27, 1928, in North Fryeburg to Charles and Reta Emery. Leona was born and raised in Fryeburg, attending the local schools and graduating from Fryeburg Academy.

Upon her marriage to her husband William Mains Jr. in 1948, Leona worked for many years as a beautician before joining her husband to help run their restaurant business.

Out of the jobs Leona had, her most fulfilling and rewarding job was being a mother to her two sons, Stephen and Gary. In addition to raising a family and managing her household, Leona dedicated her time as a prominent member of the First Congregational Church; a position she upheld since 1966.

She also was a member of Eastern Star and the Women’s Guild and worked at Carroll Reed, often speaking of her time there with high regards. Leona’s passion as an established member of the community led her to donate her time to the Fryeburg Fair, serving coffee at the First Congregational Church Dairy Bar; a position she loved dearly.

Her enjoyment with these positions didn't compare to her greatest joy — spending time with her friends and family. Leona was predeceased by her husband in 2007, her son Stephen L. Mains in 1997, her brothers John Emery, Earl Emery, Lee Emery, and Everett Emery respectively.

She is survived by her son Gary Mains of Fryeburg, her brother Phillip Emery and his wife Lorna of Fryeburg. Other family members include her grandchildren Stephanie Mains and Carla Bonner of Portland, Maine, Tammy Calder and her husband Wes of Wayne, Maine, Jessica Bourque and her husband Brian of Manchester, N.H., Brian Mains of Northfield, N.H.; four great-grandsons, Immanuel and Samuel Calder, Trace Bonner, and Colton Bourque and one great-granddaughter, Jayme Tobin.

A celebration of life will be held at the First Congregational Church on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. A burial will take place at the Riverside Cemetery in North Fryeburg in Spring of 2026.
