Joseph Evans '77

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph DiTommaso Evans on July 19, 2025 at the age of 66. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the beautiful memories and lasting legacy he leaves behind.

He was a devoted husband to Angela Evans; loving father to Mia Moll (nee Evans, husband Bryan Moll) & Corey McCann; stepfather to Gregory (wife Dana Maialetti) and Stephanie Maialetti (husband, Brian Schnepf); brother to Melissa Kramer and Pam Kopel; and an amazing grandfather to Sophia Maialetti, and Bodhi & Ruby Moll.

Joe was born on November 25, 1958 in Reading, PA to parents Palma and James K. Evans. He graduated from Fryeburg Academy in Maine, then moved back to Pennsylvania where he worked in the family business in fabrication at Excelsior Blower Systems. He then went on to become a master carpenter, known for his exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.

On February 22, 1999, he married the love of his life, Angela, and together they lived on their farm in Oley, PA with their Bernese Mountain dogs and horses. When they first met, they would take walks and forage for edible mushrooms in the woods. Their shared passion turned into a full-time job, where they owned and operated a specialty mushroom farm, Oley Valley Mushroom, and created something truly special together. Angela and Joe recently closed the business and Joe has been enjoying his retirement woodworking, fishing and reading.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, with visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 PM followed by a service at 2:00 PM at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 423 Main St. Oley, PA 19547. Casual attire is encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to PBS & NPR at https://whyy.plus.npr.org/ Memorial Service Thursday, July 24th at 2:00 pm in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley, PA 19547. A visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00 pm until time of services.
