Irving Shaw '54

Irving Roger Shaw, also known as “The Old Buzzard” of North Fryeburg, Maine, passed away peacefully in his sleep Aug. 4, 2024, at the age of 88. Irving was born July 29, 1936, to the parents of Raymond J. Shaw and Mary P. (Hannaford) Shaw. He was born and raised in North Fryeburg and graduated the Fryeburg academy in 1954. Irving was pre deceased by brothers George R. Shaw and Frank W. Shaw Sr. He leaves behind one beloved sister Evelyn E. Davis of Baldwin Maine. Irving remained in Fryeburg where he raised a family of five children. He was predeceased by a daughter Wendy J. Dunn. He leaves behind two sons, George R. Shaw and Irving R. Shaw (Richard). He also leaves behind two daughters Janice M.Davis and Jennifer M. Warren. Irving had 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Irving worked in the farming industry most of his life. He worked at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds for many years and for the public works department for the state of Maine until which time he retired. Irving loved good food, good friends and often combined the two by cooking and hosting many pig roasts and cookouts throughout the years with and for family and friends. I dare say he had the best pig roast around and his turkeys just melted in your mouth. Irving had many passions however his favorite was his passion for the Fryeburg Fair as well as all the other Maine fairs. He loved the horse races, the horse pulls was his favorite to watch and no one loved fair food more than Irving! Irving’s family would like to give a special thank you to one of the best friends he ever had, Kenny Durkee. Thank you, Kenny, for all that you did for him, for being such a good friend. Thank you for taking him to the fairs he loved so much and of course getting him the clams he loved so much too these past few years. You were a true and caring friend and he thought the world of you. We all do! Although Irving will be missed by all he shall never be forgotten. A celebration of Irving’s life will be held on Sept. 7 at the pulling ring of the Fryeburg Fairgrounds at noon. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to bring a side dish to share. All are welcome to attend.
