Gordon Gardiner, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at his home in Dennis, on June 12, 2025, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Gordon, son of the late Gordon and Elizabeth Gardiner, born in Quincy, Massachusetts, and moved to Cape Cod with his family at the age of six. He was a 1965 graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, where he played football and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. He continued his education with a postgraduate year at Fryeburg Academy in Maine. Gordon spent his career dedicated to the family businesses. He began working at the beloved cottages on Gardiner Lane and later contributing to the success of the family's sub shop. He worked closely with his father and brother Roger at Gardiner Tile and Carpet. After his father’s death, he took the reins of the business with dedication and pride and continued building a strong reputation for his hard work, integrity, and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Family was at the heart of Gordon’s life. He had two children, Scott (Martha) and Holly (Paul), with his first wife, Elaine. He married Marilyn Evans on July 22, 1977, gaining a stepson Bradford (Evangelina), and having two daughters, Jenny (Bob) and Lyn (Melissa). Marilyn’s passing in December left a profound absence in his life. Gordon’s role as a grandfather brought him deep joy, and he treasured time spent with grandchildren Jack and Mia Chase, Christopher and Zachary Perreault, Benjamin and Theodore Gardiner-Sheedy, Marisol Obregon, and Brandon Gardiner. He shared a bond with his siblings: Roger and his wife Bobbie, David and his late wife Carol, and sister Amy Dixon and husband Donn as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.
He cherished every moment with family—spending time at the family cabin in New Hampshire, teaching children how to ski, traveling to England to visit his daughter and her family, and indulging his love for Disney, his favorite place. In his retirement, he especially enjoyed
summers at the Beach Shack at Cape Life Gifts, where he greeted visitors with warmth and humor. He also loved quiet evenings at home with his puppies Calli and Storm. He also had a treasured friendship with dear friends Art and Sharon Wright, with whom he shared countless memories and adventures. Though he regarded himself as “just a tile man”, Gordon will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love and devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Burial in the Dennis Village Cemetery will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Animal Rescue League - Brewster Shelter 3981 Main St. Brewster, MA 02631
