Esther Chapman Walker '65

Esther Joy Chapman Walker, a proud lifelong resident of Brownfield, Maine, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 28, 1947, in North Conway, N.H., the daughter of the late Clayton and Doris "Teddie" Chapman. Esther attended local schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy.

On March 5, 1965, she married Bernard Walker, and they enjoyed over 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2017. Esther had a fierce love for all animals, especially her beloved cats. She enjoyed reading, spending time with family, and traveling — especially if ice cream was involved. She was fortunate to be able to visit several of her bucket list destinations — Mount Rushmore being at the top of her list. In recent years, she became a great-great-grandmother to Isabelle and Charlotte. She cherished sharing laughter and good memories, often entertained by the ''twins."

She is survived by her children Elly Atwood (John) of Fryeburg, Maine, and Erik Walker (Cindy) of Brownfield, Maine; her grandchildren, Stacy McAllister-Geller (Alex) of Plainfield, N.H., and Todd Walker of Brownfield; her great-great-grandchildren Isabelle and Charlotte Geller of Plainfield, N.H.; and her siblings Fayralyn Davis (Jim) of Brownfield; Beverly Chapman of Waterford, Mainel Paul Chapman of Waterford, Maine; and Dale Chapman of Vietnam.

At Esther's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Maine Cancer Foundation or your local animal shelter.
