Douglas Wood '77

Douglas Earle Wood, of Kennebunk, ME, passed away peacefully in his home on May 24, 2026, with his wife and son by his side after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Doug was born on December 6, 1957, to Raymond and Marie Wood of Fryeburg, ME. He attended Fryeburg Academy, where he was a dedicated athlete in baseball, football, and wrestling. When he wasn’t busy with sports, he cherished the company of his friends and family.

He graduated from the Academy in 1977 and soon after met and later married his wife, Andrea. They had one son together, Spenser.

Doug started his career as a Merchant Marine, working on tugboats out of Texas. He later found his life-long vocation in pest control, where he took pride in caring for his customers for the past 35 years.

Known for his jovial disposition and playful sense of humor, Doug was an avid gardener and bird watcher. If he wasn’t out tending to his flowers and vegetables, you could find him taking care of and admiring the local songbirds. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed exploring his love of history and often had a surprising depth of knowledge at his fingertips.

While he took pleasure in his hobbies at home, he could always be coaxed out on an adventure with the promise of good food and drink.

Doug is survived by his wife, Andrea Wood and their son, Spenser Wood; his brother, David Wood and wife Catherine; his three sisters Debbie Larson and husband Charlie, Diane Apgar and husband Stan, and Dayle Martin; sisters-in-law Gail Wood and Cathy Wood; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Marie Wood; his brothers Delph and Donald Wood; and his brother-in-law Bill Martin.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at New England Cancer Specialists in Kennebunk for their excellent care and compassion.

Doug will be forever missed. His laugh, his kindness, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who love him. He will never be forgotten.
