Dorothy Helen Jones (Eastman) passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2024. Born on July 13th, 1930, in Fryeburg, Maine, Dorothy lived a rich and fulfilling life marked by love and family.
Dorothy "Dot" was the beloved daughter of Leah and Forrest Eastman and was the third youngest of eleven children, all of whom predeceased her. Her loving husband, Gordon Jones, also preceded her in death in 2007.
Dot spent her childhood in Fryeburg, where she graduated from Fryeburg Academy, participating in numerous clubs and sports. Her professional life included secretarial roles at Pineland Hospital and the University of Maine System before ultimately settling in her career as a clerk for the Town of Windham, where she worked for over 40 years and formed many lifelong friendships.
Dot met Gordon, the love of her life, in 1947, shortly after he returned from World War II. They married on Christmas Day in 1948 and together, they built a beautiful family with four sons, David, Ricky, Alan, and Billy. The family resided in Freeport for several years before settling in Windham in the early 1960s. In the late 1960s, Dot and Gordon purchased property on Long Lake in Naples, Maine, which became a cherished family retreat. They built a camp on the property in the early 1970s that became a place of great joy for the whole extended family. Family and friends spent countless summers at "camp" having cookouts, playing cards, swimming, boating, and enjoying campfires surrounded by laughter and love.
Upon retirement, Dot and Gordon enjoyed winters in the warmth of Florida and summers at their beloved camp. They and generations of family shared almost 40 years of treasured memories at Long Lake. Both their children and grandchildren look back upon those summers with immense gratitude and fondness. Dot and Gordon's 58 years of marriage were filled with so much love and shared happiness. Although Dot missed Gordon deeply after his passing, she continued cherishing every moment spent with her family during the 17 years she lived without him.
Dot is survived by her sons: David Jones and his wife Janet, Ricky Jones and his wife Linda, Alan Jones, and William (Billy) Jones and his wife Lisa. Dorothy's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Wayne Jones, Jennifer McFarlane, Christina Jones, Leah Jones, Rebecca Woodbury, Deanna McLean, Casey Jones, Morgan Stilphen, Melany Mondello, Jessica Dafni, Jacob Dafni and Daneel Dafni, as well as her treasured great-grandchildren: Trinity, Jocelynn, Cotye, Peyton, Preston, Bryce, Autumn, Acadia, Penelope, Madilyn, Eleanor, Mark, Ethan and Jasper.
A graveside service will be held at Smith Cemetery in Windham on Friday, June 21st at 10:30a.m. Following the service, a gathering to celebrate her life will be held at her granddaughter Deanna McLean's home in Windham. Dot will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
