Aloha R. Kelley of Center Conway, N.H., left us peacefully on Sept. 9, 2024, after several years of illness.
Aloha was born on Christmas Day in 1946 to Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Roberts in Laconia, N.H.. Her mother June Quincy Roberts decided to give this beautiful baby the lovely name of Aloha Lee. She joined siblings Carolyn, Roger and Harry. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to North Fryeburg, Maine. The family grew as brothers Phillip, Dwight (Ike) and Jeffrey were born.
Aloha started school in North Fryeburg and graduated in 1965 from Fryeburg Academy, where she participated in sports and cheerleading. Having grown up with five brothers and many cousins, she had learned to enjoy the competition.
Aloha’s first husband, Edward R. Garland, blessed her with two boys: Edward Garland Jr. and Craig Garland in 1968 and 1970, respectively. Shortly after that they parted ways. Aloha’s sister Carolyn introduced her to Alex W. Kelley of Jackson, N.H. by way of a blind date, and they were married on Aug. 22, 1975. They lived in Bartlett, N.H. from then until December 2022, when they moved to Center Conway.
Aloha was employed at North Conway Bank, L.A. Drew and Kringles in Glen, N.H. She and Alex purchased a camper in 1978 and started camping mostly at Kezar Lake. In 1983, they became seasonal campers at Littlefield Beaches in Greenwood, Maine. They were there until 2019 and made many long-lasting friendships.
Aloha was predeceased by her father, Harry G. Roberts; mother, June M. Roberts; sister Carolyn Libby, brother Phillip G. Roberts and his wife Wanda.
She is survived by her husband Alex Kelley; son Edward Garland Jr., his fiancée Natalia and her son Artem and daughters Alisa and Sophia; son Craig Garland, wife Shaila and grandson Matthew Garland; brothers Roger Roberts and wife Carol; Harry Roberts Jr., Dwight Roberts and wife Ruth; Jeffrey Roberts and wife Sue; brother-in-law Jeff Libby and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Center Conway Fire Department; the doctors, nurses and staff at the ER and Memorial Hospital; Dr. Hamilton and her nurses; Dr. Evans and his team at the New England Cancer Specialists in Scarborough; the visiting nurses and therapists at Home Care and Hospice in North Conway; the ER team at Stevens Hospital; and the staff at Norway Center for Health and Rehab.
Arrangements were made through Furber Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Those that knew Aloha were lucky. She always put everyone else first and was selfless to the end. In light of this, we ask that in lieu of flowers please donate to the North Fryeburg Community Chapel or any of the aforementioned — as they all do great work.
Services will be held at the North Fryeburg Community Chapel located at 3 North Fryeburg Road on Oct. 26, 2024 at 11 a.m.
