MESAT-1 Satellite to Launch with Fryeburg Academy Experiments
- Academics
MESAT-1, the first satellite from Maine, will be launched this Wednesday, June 26th, from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 9 PM PDT (Midnight Eastern). MESAT-1 is not just a technological marvel, it's a lifeline for our coastal waters. It carries experiments from Maine Schools, Fryeburg Academy, Falmouth High School, and Saco Middle School. The spacecraft is equipped with four cameras, each looking at different wavelengths of light, carefully chosen to analyze the condition of the coastal waters of Maine. These cameras will be on the lookout for algae blooms, red tide, and turbidity (silt in the water), providing crucial data for our understanding and preservation of these vital ecosystems.
