Fryeburg Academy Student Scientists Earn Top Honors at MSSF

Two Fryeburg Academy students earned top honors at the Maine State Science Fair on April 3, standing out among nearly 250 projects from across the state.

An Nguyen ’27 earned 1st Place with her project exploring how yeast adapts to stress, inspired by the concept of immune “memory” in the Microbiology category. And fellow student Lillian Coriaty ’28 took 2nd Place with her project on breaking down motor oil using bacteria under controlled nutrient conditions.

Both projects reflect months of dedicated work, including more than 100 hours of research, testing, and analysis, and a strong commitment to the scientific process from start to finish.

Faculty advisors Mr. Grimes, Ms. Meldrum, and Mr. Freniere shared, “These awards represent the culmination of extensive research, experimentation, data analysis, and preparation. Our students truly rose to the challenge.”

Congratulations to Lillian and An on a strong showing for Fryeburg Academy at one of the state’s most competitive academic events.
