2025 Lucas Spencer Passion Fund Recipients
At the all-school meeting on Thursday, January 9th, this year's Lucas Spencer Passion Fund scholarship recipients were announced. Congratulations to Maddy Beckwith '25 and Isaac Houghton '25, who were awarded the scholarships.
The scholarship fund was established in memory of Lucas Spencer, who was in the Class of 2015, by his parents. Lucas was moved by Mark Twain’s assertion that “the two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why.” The fund provides Fryeburg Academy students with financial assistance to pursue an area of significant personal interest–in other words, their passion!
At the meeting, Mrs. Hodgman-Burns, director of school counseling, read the following about each candidate:
Maddy's passion is archery, which she discovered as a scout and rediscovered after COVID-19 and was able to return to the range. The award will help her purchase a target, arrows, and a finger guard so she can continue to practice and strengthen her hand-eye coordination.
Issac's passion is music, and a recent interest in writing music–specifically jazz and the fiddle. The award will allow him to purchase recording equipment–a used Apollo twin to start his audio setup since he will not have access to the FA equipment following graduation.
