The Fryeburg Academy Math Team finished the season by defending their Pi-Cone League Championship title at Leavitt High School on March 6th. The Pi-Cone League consists of 14 teams from 11 regional high schools throughout Central Maine. Five meets were held this year from October through March. 50 Fryeburg Academy students competed on the math team, the highest number of participants on record. Senior team captains Antonina Zackorchemna '19 and Celine Lyu '19 did an outstanding job of leading the team this year. Weekly practices were held at the LaCasse Dining Hall.
The Fryeburg Einstein team led the league with 1078 points for the year, followed by Oxford Hills with a tally of 918 points and the Fryeburg Newton team placed third with 745 points. The top five teams were awarded trophy plaques. Fryeburg Academy has finished in first place in the Pi-Cone League for the past 13 years.
Fryeburg Academy mathletes awarded medals for the Pi-Cone league were: Arvin Ma '20, Third Place Overall; Joyce Wang '19 and Antonina Zackorchemna '19 tied for Fourth Place Overall; Celine Lyu '19, 1st Place Senior; Zack Zhang '19, 2nd Place Senior; Jack Liu '19 and Austin Wu '19 tied for 3rd Place Senior; Artem Laptier '20 and Kathy Yang '20 tied for 1st Place Junior; and Jane Ma '20, 2nd Place Junior.
The top scorers for the season will compete at the Maine State Math Meet in Augusta on April 2nd. The team this year includes Arvin Ma '19, Joyce Wang,'19, Antonina Zackorchemna '19, Celine Lyu '19, Zack Zhang 19, Artem Laptier '20, Kathy Yang '20, Jane Ma '20, and Mark Ma '19.

We are pleased to announce that the College Board has conferred AP Scholar Awards upon 27 Fryeburg Academy students this year, recognizing college-level achievement on AP examinations for 14 students designated as AP Scholars, six further as AP Scholars with Honor, and seven as AP Scholars with Distinction.

These academically-talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring.
This summer, senior Arvin Ma ’20 participated in Berklee’s Aspire: Five-Week Music Performance Intensive in Boston, MA. The five-week program is considered one of the world's preeminent summer musical performance programs for high school and precollege students. Participants of the prestigious program earn a college credit and have the opportunity for one--on-one instruction with well-known artists and scholarships.
