Headmaster's Welcome
From the Headmaster
Although much has changed since John Hancock signed Fryeburg Academy's charter in 1792 and Daniel Webster served as Headmaster in the early 19th century, the Academy remains a unique American institution - a boarding school unlike any other in the nation. Today's Academy is an effective blend of our distinguished past and our commitment to prepare young men and women for the challenges of the 21st century.
At Fryeburg Academy, this preparation begins with expert and supportive teachers who are devoted to the total development of our students and to their own professional growth. Students have easy access to the faculty at Fryeburg Academy where the boarding student/resident faculty ratio is only 4:1 and where individual attention is an integral part of every student's experience.
There is no typical student at the Academy; for over 200 years our democratic tradition has been to welcome students from the widest variety of backgrounds. Our diverse student body enjoys all the advantages of private education at a school that also serves youngsters from many villages of western Maine and eastern New Hampshire. This mix enriches Academy life and provides boarders the opportunity to participate in a full array of curricular, extracurricular, and athletic offerings uncommon in small boarding schools.
The Academy's boarders come from throughout the United States and all over the world, yet they feel at home here - among friends in a comfortable, caring atmosphere. They feel they're with family, valued and respected by the Academy's adults. They feel they're part of a community, one characterized by small town values and kindness... with a place in it for every person.
Please accept my invitation to visit Fryeburg Academy to see for yourself why we are so proud of our school.
