This family-friendly program will include ballet, tap, and jazz pieces to your favorite Christmas tunes in the first half, and a shortened version of The Nutcracker in the second half.

  Met Opera Live in HD: L’Amour de Loin

  Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho’s breakthrough opera was described by the New York Times as “transfixing…a lushly beautiful score.” Commissioned by the Salzburg Festival, where it was first seen in 2000, it will now finally have its Metropolitan Opera premiere in a dazzling new production by Robert Lepage, featuring glimmering ribbons of LED lights that extend across the length of the stage and over the orchestra pit. Eric Owens is the knight on a quest of love and Susanna Phillips is his lover on the other side of the sea. Conductor Susanna Mälkki makes her Met debut. White Mountain Cider Company will be serving lunch in the lobby from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Joe De Vito will be hosting his Opera Lecture Series on Tuesday, December 6th at 3:00 pm.

  Encounters In Sound featuring Jed Wilson & Joe K. Walsh

  Bradley Backstage presents the fifth Encounters in Sound concert with pianist Jed Wilson. Wilson, best known for his appearances on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion and collaborations with singer/songwriter Heather Masse, will be accompanied by mandolinist/songwriter Joe K. Walsh. Roots music isn’t made in a vacuum. It’s the creation of a community, of a circle of friends, of a teacher and a student. It’s something to be passed back and forth to be treasured. As an acclaimed master of American roots music, Joe K. Walsh knows this better than most. He’s toured with countless artists, collaborated with other master musicians like Darol Anger and the Gibson Brothers, founded progressive stringband Joy Kills Sorrow in the early 2000s, and is currently on faculty at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. “The touch of sawdust in his vocals, or the buzz of the mandolin strings may hint at the deep rural roots of Walsh’s music, but what he’s creating now is a new kind of tradition.”
