 | Celebrating Multi-Cultural Diversity At Fryeburg Academy we celebrate our multi-cultural diversity. With students from over 20 different countries, we are a true international community. Many of our international students are involved in our outstanding English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. While some students come to Fryeburg for a half year or full year study abroad experience, most of our students come to the Academy with the intention of completing high school and going on to university. Upon graduation, 99% of our boarding population goes on to study at a college or university in the United States or abroad. Admission International students seeking admission to Fryeburg Academy should complete and submit our application, three recommendations, all transcripts, and schedule an in-person, phone or SKYPE interview. Fryeburg Academy does not require the SSAT, TOEFL, SLEP or any other standardized testing. The application deadline is February 1st. Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a space- available basis.
More specific information regarding admission as well as the application for admission can be found in the “Application Process” section of our website.
Financial Aid Fryeburg Academy is committed to enrolling qualified students from a wide variety of backgrounds, regardless of family financial resources. While financial aid resources are limited, every effort is made to bring a Fryeburg Academy education within the reach of all who may wish to enroll. Fryeburg Academy awards financial aid on the basis of financial need. Students who wish to be considered for financial aid must complete a Parents' Financial Statement with the School and Scholarship Service. Forms may be filed online at sss.nais.org. Families must submit supporting documents that reflect total family annual income for the last year (tax return, letter from employer, etc.). Priority will be given to applications submitted by February 1st.
The school calls attention to the fact that money available for financial aid is derived from one of two sources: gifts or bequests that have been made for this purpose, or from current income. In both instances the funds are limited. Fryeburg Academy encourages families with limited means to apply for financial assistance based upon the assumption that the primary obligation for financing a student’s education rests solely with the family. With this in mind, please be aware that Fryeburg does not award financial aid packages that cover the full cost of tuition.
More specific information on financial aid as well as the financial aid application can be found in the application section of our website.
Student Visa Information Accepted students who plan on attending the Academy must return a signed enrollment contract and a deposit by the date specified on their enrollment agreement. International students must also complete the international student information form. Upon receipt of these items the admissions office will do one of the following:
* For students who are not already studying in the U.S.- We issue the student a Fryeburg Academy I-20. The student is then responsible for following the proper steps to acquire an F-1 student visa. Those students who follow the proper steps but have their visa application denied are eligible to have their deposit returned in full.
* For students who are already studying in the U.S. on an F-1 visa- Upon completion of the student's current program Fryeburg Academy will contact the sending institution in order to have the I-20 transferred.
Courses upon arrival at the Academy, all international students are given an English test and a math test to help determine course placement. Working with members of the ESOL department, each student will receive a customized schedule that will help him/her achieve his/her academic goals. The Academy offers four levels of ESOL classes from beginner to transitional. We also offer subject-based ESOL courses in biology and history. With over 100 course offerings, students will find they have options from advanced courses to electives.
More specific information on course offerings and our ESOL program can be found in the “Academics” section of our website.
