FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Academy indoor track teams closed the book on the regular season last Friday night on the oval at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. And, what a way to close the book in the regular campaign. The girls from Fryeburg finished in fine-fashion.

"With only the Western Maine Conference Championships to qualify for States the pressure is on," Kevin McDonald, Raiders' head coach, said. "There were eight other teams at the meet and the girls came away with an overall win with only 15 girls. Unbelievable! They scored 123 points to seal the win by 3 points. Coach Collins, Coach Hall and I are overjoyed for these 15 young ladies. I believe this is the first overall win for the girls. We are not a large team but we do have talent. My hat goes off to Lake Region as they finished second to secure a very nice one-two punch for the area. The boys finished fourth, so it proved to be a great night for the Raiders."

Coach McDonald said there were numerous highlights from the meet.

Among those, Colleen Bullard had a huge day setting a personal record in the 200 meters.

"Colleen has been mainly a thrower but has talent as a runner," McDonald said. "We have encouraged her to give running events a try. She has worked with the sprinters a bit more these last couple of weeks and the results are starting to show. We are very happy for Colleen and see a very bright future for her both on and off the track."

Max Kummer qualified for the State Meet in the 400-meter dash.

"Max, only a sophomore and already on the 4x200 relay team, now has secured his spot as an individual," McDonald said. "It is tough to make the state standard and to have Max accomplish this as a sophomore is exciting news."

Lexi Charles continues to crush the 200-meter dash.

"Lexi has dropped her P.R. to 29:04," McDonald said. "A member of the 4x200 relay, which is producing very fast times, Lexi continues to improve. She has been working with Coach Hall as of late and will continue for the next two weeks. If all comes together on Feb. 13 at Bates, the girls 4x200 team could be on the top of the podium."

Miah Schrader came oh-so close to the school record in the 200-meter dash, missing the mark by 100th of a second.

"We know that record should go down," McDonald said. "This week at Western Maine Conference Championships should provide just the atmosphere Miah needs to put his name in the record book."

Mustafa Demer improved his shot put best to 39'9".

"Still in search of the 40' mark, we are confident he will achieve his goal in the next two weeks," McDonald said.
